Q: What are some fun tasty healthy vegetarian food choices?
I have been vegetarian for ten years and am getting a little tired of my food options. I want some new ideas for all meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and dessert. I am lacto-ovo, so I eat dairy products, but no meat or fish and I try to stay away from eggs.

A: chicken wings

Q: Are vegetarian food choices like Boca and Morning Star junk food? Can I make healthy choices by eating them?
I am needing to become a vegetarian to reverse a number of health issues but I am concerned that these food options might be just as dangerous in the long run as any other frozen processed food. I need some help and some serious advice. Thank you!

A: Compared to their meat counterparts, the fake meats are healthier(as they are lower in saturated fat, cholesterol, etc). However, they are by no mean healthy. Faux meats are over processed, loaded with salt, high in calories, and offer little nutrition wise. The occasional faux meat is fine(just like the occasional real chicken nugget is fine in a meat eaters diet.) You do not want to be living off of fake meats like some teenage vegetarian tend to do. You need to eat a wide variety of healthy fresh foods. Fake meats should be consumed as a treat, something like once a week or so. The rest of your diet should be fresh veggies, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, etc. I would suggest getting a good cook book(one with easy recipes), and learn to cook healthy nutrient filled foods.

Q: homely vegetarian food in and around ramamurthy nagar bangalore?
Hi, I moved in to ramamurthy nagar recently. Iam trying to find out whether any mess or home made vegetarian food or hotel is available in that area. Since roads are bad, searching has been difficult. If anybody could deliver at home, thats also welcome. Pls help.

A: hey I used to live in ramamurthy nagar... not too much choice there I'm afraid... but if you want home delivery.... Tamarind. There is also this small shack (looks dodgy) run by a UP gentleman inside ramamurthy nagar ... (beyond fabmall..keep going straight and it'll be on your right) which serves amazing chole bhature and puri aloo .. n home delivery though, you'll have to pick it up. If you're looking to eat out... Indiranagar... we've lived there for 2 years and a lot of the food places nearby aren't great. hope you like some of these!

Q: Where would i be able to buy a vegetarian food guide?
I am after a pocket sized book that contains a list of which packaged foods are or aren't vegetarian. I am sick of having to always look at the ingredients and surely someone must have published a book with all the foods already listed.

A: I haven't found a book myself personally that shows that BUT. BUT. BUT! I do know of a site that will help show foods are are vegetarian friendly. Everything from food to drinks, cosmetics, personal items even clothes. You could jot down some of the more common ones to take with you grocery shopping whenever you'd like. Theres tons of sub catagories too, like pastries, dressings etc. Very informative with other vegetarian resources to read up on too! Hope that helps!

Q: Vegetarian food at a barbecue?
I am hosting a barbecue in July, but nearly half of my guests are vegetarians. What kinds of foods should I prepare/grill for them so they will feel included? Also, weird question but can I grill vegetarian food next to hamburgers and hot dogs on the same grill or would vegetarians be offended/not eat the food then?

A: Grill up some veggie burgers, veggie dogs and/or Veggies (like squash, asparagus, etc.). Most vegetarians would prefer not to have them cooked next to meat, since it splatters fat and other nasties. Also be aware that some BBQ sauces have meat products like beef and anchovies in them. If you have another grill available try that, or have one of them bring one. You are very kind to care!!!

Q: what big name store can i buy vegetarian food? for example veggie patties, tofurky?
can i find vegetarian food at trader joe's?

A: Wegmans, Shoprite, A&P to name a few. Most all foodstores have a vegetarian or whole foods section now a days. However most warehouse stores don't have very much. Like the BJ 's shopping club by me sells soy milk, free range eggs and veggie burgers but that is as far as their vegetarian section goes.

No offense to anyone, but don't send me any links to Chinese websites. I have had bad experiences buying anything from China! If you know of a good online source for vegetarian foods, please fill me in. Thanks!

Q: Why do some vegetarian places make fake food?
(Sincere) I love vegetables and vegetarian foods but it disgusts me to see those "fake meat" foods. You know, tofu shaped to look like a Chinese resturant deep fried shrimp or chicken wing. What is the point of that? I was served that stuff last night and it was really revolting. If you are a vegetarian why on earth do you want some heavy gross food shaped to LOOK like meat? Signed, Sincere and Wondering and Heading Towards Vegetarianism

A: Because you are sincere and wondering, here is my reasoning: I grew up in a poor, meat-centric household. Potatoes were side dishes, and vegetables were corn or peas... and took up very little of our plates. :) To this day I like very few vegetables, and I only like them because I have tried very hard over the past few years to find veggies I do like. I stopped eating meat for moral reasons, I found I was no longer able to take part in eating animal flesh. Fake meats were my saving grace in vegetarianism. It is lame, but in my family, meat=food. I really liked the flavor of meat, and my tastes never found out how to enjoy light and healthy foods like vegetables. Fake meats gave me something I could relate to and allowed me to feel as though I wasn't missing out. Mind you, my diet is a lot more varied now than when I was a child, but soy rocks.

Q: How can I follow the vegetarian food pyramid?
I know this is kind of dumb but I'm kind of new.I was wondering how can I follow the vegetarian food pyramid.I don't really know how.How I can incorporate all the severings into my daily life? http://www.mayoclinic.com/popupnowrap.cfm?objectid=C2B01356-4063-4D57-93AFCA7419C042BD&method=display_full Do you hav any ideas? Thanks

A: Plan your meals. 1) Breakfast: cereal, toast, bagel, fruit etcs.. - this covers your daily carbs, better to have carbs in the morning versus at night. 2) Mid morning: yogurt, apple, protein bar. this will give you energy 3) Lunch: veggie sandwich, grilled veggies, veggie soup with lots of beans - you'll get your proteins and with the veggies, get your "a,b,c,d,e" vitamins. 4) Dinner: big spinach salad, or a leafy green salad, with a main course veggie dish. the salad covers your iron and more protein, with great vitamins. - b12 The main course veggie dish, - you can basically have what you want as along as it not to heavey in crabs. like don't eat loads and loads of paste or bread. but a little is good!
