Q: What makes the Eucalyptus tree (gum tree) unique?
I know that they're unique because there isn't anything else like it, but what features does it have that enable it to be classified as unique?
For example, kangaroos are unique because it is the only large animal to use hopping as a form of movement.
So what feature/s does the gum tree have that make it unique?
Please help, I am having difficulty finding this for an assignment, I am only asking this as a last resort.
A: Their leaves are the only thing that koala bears can eat. If all the eucalyptus trees died, so would all the koala bears.
Not sure; but I think they have one of the highest concentrations of oil than in any other tree.
Q: how do you start a eucalyptus tree?
A: Seeds are easy but you can find then is garden centers in the spring along with herbs in 4 inch pots. They are great to use as contrast plants in containers. Then just replant where u want and watch it grow. When replanting at the nursery into larger containers I usually have to stake and trim to start to tree form. IU have repotted and left then fairly bushy and natural. A few folks have used them for hedge plants and kept them trimmed also. COOLAND FRAGRANT HEDGE.
Q: How do you propagate a eucalyptus tree branch?
A: I have never tried to root a cutting....suggest using standard principles of propogation....however eucalyptus grow quite easily from seed. I hear they become a problem on lawns where seeds drop.
Q: When was the eucalyptus tree introduced to israel ?
ImpaKt
You lie !!!!
Ishmatok
Good answer
A: the eucalyptus tree was brought over from australia sometime around the 1870 because of their potential to dry out swampland.they were used in the hula valley north of the kinneret lake.they did very well and were used all over israel, along many main roads to provide shade.they are beautiful and part of the landscape.
Q: We have cut down a 20' eucalyptus tree 2' from the house. Should the stump & roots also be dug up?
A: Eucalyptus will shoot again very quickly, so you would be better to kill the stump. Use SBK (stump bush killer), drill a hole about 4 to 6 inch into the centre of the stump, make a few cuts across the centre of the stump and cut off all the bark round the outside. Mix some oil with the BSK (old engine oil will do), cover the stump in the mixture and cover with a sheet of plastic.
SBK can be dangerous if not used correctly, always follow the manufacturers instructions to the letter.
SBK is the best stump and brush killer on the market and can be bought from any good garden centre or B&Q.
Q: Can I use eucalyptus tree Branch's for my parrots?
I have two parrots African Grey and a umbrella cockatoo. I also have a couple huge eucalyptus trees in the back yard with cool branches that look like it would be fun for a parrot to play on.,but is it safe for them to chew and play on??
A: Hi, I have a 6 year old African Grey. I would be careful with the Eucalyptus because they do have oil that is used for medicinal purposes. Check with a local vet or pet store that specializes in parrots. They will probably tell you to stick to something that is not so oily. The Afrcian Grey or any other bird would be so quick to react to something like that , it would be too late to do something once they were chewing on it. Try some of the African Grey sites on the internet. They have a wealth of info for birds. Good Luck Anne
Q: we have an eucalyptus tree that is about 1 and a half feet high after 4 yrs of growth?
are they that slow at groth or should i dig it up and start over?
A: That depends on what species of Eucalyptus you are growing. Some species have a much faster growth rate than others.
Q: can anyone tell me how to start a Eucalyptus tree from a banch and also a pyracantha tree.?
A: you need rootpowder for transplanting ,Merical grow liquid mix, you also need a potting mix, of sand-loam-and compost, also need a warm area, about 75 degrees yr round,
Soak the cut branch in bucket of water and mericle grow fertilizer, untill you see the roots, then dip the roots into root powder, then place in the potting mix, which should be medium wet. good luck these trees are very difficult to transplant
Q: What about growing eucalyptus trees? I have a wind problem here where I live. Can growiing lots of these tree
on my property slow the wind down and keep from damaging my house so much . Im not talking about a tornado but really high yearly winds that blow brick tiles off roof
I live in damp enviroment so sucking up moister would be great . Ive heard these trees bend tremendously and I would plant trees that are over 4 ft to start with !
A: Eucalyptus are dirty trees. Drop leaves, stems, seed pads all the time. They also are damaged by winds. Look for some other tree.
Q: My son has a eucalyptus tree in his yard. Can I get one rooted from hiss or how do I get one?
A: Eucalyptus is actually really common to get from most Lowes or Home Depot's, and for very cheap, about $20 for a 5gal container.
If you want to start from a graft of his, there are a couple things to do. They do have these special cups that you can use to start roots from one of the limbs. Or you can also.....
Get some peat or spanish moss, a black garbage bag some green garden tape and a utility knife.
Trim away about an inch worth of bark around one of the limbs, moisten the moss, and secure it in place with the trash bag wrapped around it, and tie it off using the gardeners tape. Be sure to water every week or so. Give it a couple of months and voila.... it has sprouted roots, and you can now transplant it into a pot, do this temporarily for a couple more months, then you can plop it in the ground.
Its alot of work, but its free. Of course like I said, you could just pick one up for about $20 at Lowes or Home Depot.
Q: I have just bought a beautiful 9ft Eucalyptus tree. Any info on planting/positioning pls?
A: Dig the planting hole 2 to 3 times the width of the rootball. This will allow the roots to easily penetrate the surrounding soil as they grow. Plant the tree no deeper than the rootball. You absolutely want to avoid planting too deep as this can kill the tree in the long-run. At the time of planting ensure that there are no girdling roots growing around the trunk, they should be radiating away. Prune/remove any small roots that are girdling, these can also kill the tree in the future by cutting off water and nutrient transfer.
Plant the tree in a location that will allow it to grow to its full potential. Eucs can get very large so do not plant it too close to any structures and do not plant it underneath powerlines or other obstacles. Plant it in an area with sufficient soil surface area and volume. I suggest 920 (about 10x10) square feet of soil surface area per square foot of mature trunk diameter (at 4.5 feet above ground). You need a minimum of 2 feet of soil depth and a maximum of 3 feet soil depth to provide sufficient volume.
Be aware that depending on where you live your euc will not necessarily reach its full growth potential. For example, here in Las Vegas, our eucs typically grow to about half to three-quarters their full size potential, when compared to ideal sites in Australia and parts of California.

Q: problums with a EUCALYPTUS GUNNII tree?
hi, i have a EUCALYPTUS GUNNII tree and over the last cpl of months the leaves at the bottom of the tree have started turning red and falling off the top of the tree is still fine and still growing but the red leaves are slowley creaping up the tree to... im worried that is i do nothing i will have no leaves left, first the tree was in full sun, then i moved it to partial shade but its still happing, the tree is also in a pot but is watered regurely
A: Its leaves turning red could just be indicative of some shock or stress that it's had or is having, similar to leaves in autumn time that lose their green colouring, but will display reds etc, before eventually falling off.
The cause of the stress could be anything from suffering from the freezes during winter, it being too confined, or funning short of nutrients, and not being able to support all of its growth, mainly putting its energy into new growth.
Eucalyptus gunnii is generally winter hardy in the UK, though they occasionally suffer from severe free freezing damage, and smaller plants after often more susceptible than larger mature trees. Another factor to bear in mind is that you plant wants to become a huge tree, potentially to 100 feet tall, and it will naturally lose some of its lower growth over time - I think you're saying here that is more rapid, and substantial than just its natural progressive growth though.
It should be fine in full sun, though I don't know your location, as it is a natural plant species from Australia and will grow in somewhat brighter locations than the UK, for example. Your relocation of it may add a little extra stress, and for now I'd consider feeding it, and repotting it if it is pot pound too. Potentially allow it to have more sunlight, so that it can photosynthesise as fully as possible.
Eucalyptus gunnii can have their height maintained through pruning, and this does encourage the juvenile rounder blue leaves, rather than the oval greener mature leaves. If you intend to keep it as a pot grown plant, you could consider pruning it in future, though I wouldn't do this now, as this would add extra stress to your plant.
They don't generally suffer from pests and diseases - there are no koalas here, not that I'd consider them pests! - so I think this problem relates to the culture that it is had over the past year or so. If you've had it a relatively short time, some of this issue may be related to treatment that it had prior to your ownership of it.
Overall, it should respond to being fed and grow well if its roots are not restricted - which would inhibit the leaf growth that it can support. You're watering regularly, so I assume that you're not overwatering it. For now, some more of your TLC should help it regain its strength.
Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob
Q: I just bought a Eucalyptus tree and need advice on care.?
A: if you want it to stay blue, dint let it grow too tall as like a tree, feed while young
Q: how and when do i prune my eucalyptus tree?
A: Joe Blow needs to blow. Dont listen to him. Prune it in the winter and you will kill it. I could give you all the details but i wont, go to this link instead.

Q: adaptations between the koala and the eucalyptus tree?
biology assignment.
one native plant an animal that have adapted to similar habitats.
adaptations
A: 1. The koala’s paws have rough patches on them so they can get a good grip on the eucalyptus tree trunk easily.
2. The koalas have very strong legs and arms that can easily carry their own weight and they have a very muscular body on top of that.
3. Their claws have 5 fingers because it gives a more firm grip on the tree!!
Also: Eucalyptus leaves are toxic (poisonous) for most mammals and they are very fibrous and low in nutrition. The koala’s intestine adapted to dealing with this diet.
