Q: What is decreased wheezing after treatment of acute asthma mean, improving or worst?
A: I do agree with the all above mentioned answers. Wheezing can be even heard without using stethoscope during an episode of an acute asthmatic attack. In extreme cases, you may not able to hear the wheeze even with the use of stethoscope. Which means, the airways are severely narrowed and obstructed with the secretions that result in no air flow through the airways. So, you may not hear the wheeze at all.
So,if the initial treatment for an acute asthma is ineffective, the medics need to consider other option without delay. So, absence of wheeze does not always mean that the treatment is successful. It may even indicate the worsening situation.
Hope, this helps.
Q: What are the health effects and treatment of asthma?
Please help
A: When my children had asthma, it included wheezing, coughing, gasping, and shortness of energy. When they were treated they were given oxygen, and other medicated inhalers. One quick fix method for a sudden attack is drinking strong coffee, but this should be used only for a sudden attack and not for long term treatment. If you have to use the coffee, then you should go to the hospital right away.
Q: this is for rachael. okay, saturday morning hia mother, i'm the grandmother, gave him a asthma treatment. he
later went to sleep. he woke up and was breathing heavily. they took him to the emergency room, then they gave him ASTHMA treatment . the dr. ask if he took someone heart meds. they took bloos work and discover no drugs were taken. they transported to another hospital within a hour. they gave him ekg, his blood pressure was 168then went up to 186. they discover a previous virus maybe it was rotavirus or shigella had infected his heart muscle which was making the heart beat faster than normal. he was still responding with us. he was playing hide and go seek. they told us not to get him excited, but we were the one who was calming him down. they told us meds. from another hospital need to admitted. they transported him to another hospital and he died within 3 hours of their care. they said when he arrived his pressure was 250. he went inot cardiac arrest and died. we are trying to figure out why no one noticed he had a heart problem before hand. i'm not blaming anyone i just need to know
A: I am so sorry for your loss. Depending on the age of the child, most heart conditions are not detected in small children because they rarely experience heart related conditions. Most doctors focus on a child's growth average, immunizations, and common viruses. If Rachael went for a check-up the doctor would listen to his heart and if it did not sound as if something was irregular nor if his mom did not express concerns of the heart or chest, the doctor will not focus on that area, only what the appointment was about.
For myself, I'm 35 and have been fighting high blood pressure since I was 16. I'm not over weight, don't use salt, and I exercise. My pressure is the level of a 73 year old lady. I was in the hospital three times last year. I've had every test under the sun and the doctor's don't know why I have this terrible pressure. Apparently, I must have had it way before it was detected when I was 16. I remember going reguarlly to the doctor before that age, but because of the age, the doctor's never focuses on it.
What I would suggest to you is to get a copy all of Rachael's medical records from all of his visits (especially from his family doctor) and see what they listed for each appointed for his vital signs. They always check weight, tempature, blood pressure and pulse rate. If you see a pattern that his pulse rate or blood pressure was elavated but the doctor did not address it, I would strongly recommend getting legal assistance. Despite the age of the child, if there is a medical "red flag" flying, someone dropped the ball to address it. If a child can have cancer, a child can have heart disease.
Again, I'm sorry for your loss. I pray that you and your family find peace and comfort.
Q: how is breathing trouble due to COPD different from that of ASTHMA?How does the treatment vary ?
A: When you have asthma, your bronchioles become inflammed and tighten up, making it difficult to breathe. COPD is actually a condition where your alvioli (the structures responsible for taking the oxygen you breathe and getting it into your blood) are damaged and cannot do their job correctly. Most people with COPD also have other lung conditions, such as chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and asthma to further complicate things.
Q: Recent Asthma treatment? Just went to the hospital and I think it was a questionable visit, but you tell me.?
Background:
Have asthma, maintained with Advair 500 2x/d and occasional salbutamol when I am sick. This past weekend I got the flu which led to a cold, but am now over both.
Problem is cannot clear my lungs with the salbutamol and the advair is helping little. The wheezing is severe but, peak flow, 02, BP all norm.
Treatment provided:
Doc wanted to take X-rays and asked me to take 8 inhalations of 200mcg salbutamol (looked at the inhaler to confirm medication) to "clear" my lungs for the X-ray. I told the nurse I had a problem with this treatment plan and she the got the Doc. I told him I had already taken 5 inhalations (100mcg) that day and he said "Oh, well then take 6-7 what ever you think is best" Seriously what kind of answer is that? I took 5 knowing that it is the same medication I normally take which has not been working to clear my lungs. Should I of been given a nebulizer? Was given a script for prednisone 50mg and Zithromax, even w/ no infection visible or systems
Sorry was given Salbutamol at 100mcg
A: I don't think that they should have given it to you, since you had already taken enough. The prednisone is OK,but if there is no infection, why the Z-Pak? Try some Mucinex to clear your lungs, and a lot of warm liquids. Doctors are stupid sometimes.
Q: Is this the correct asthma treatment for severe asthma?
I was diagnosed with severe asthma. I have had asthma my entire life, but it has gotten much worse the last few years. I have recently been diagnosed with a lot of allergies this year, some even food, which I know to avoid. I just want to know if anyone else out there is on this same treatment or similar for my type of asthma.
I take Advair 500/50 2 times a day
Singular 1 time a day
Allegra D 2 times a day
Spiriva 1 time a day
Fluticasone inhaled 2x daily
Albuetrol as needed
Considering Theophylline or Aminophylline if symptoms do not improve.
Thanks for you help.
The Fluticasone propionate is an inhaled nasal spray. So, I take the advair inhaled in mouth, other through nose. Sorry about not specifiying. I took Allegra, but it does nothing for me. The Allergra-D does help much more. I have also tried Clariton and Zyrtec. They do nothing for me. Zyrtec actually makes me really sick. I felt like this was a lot of medicine, but I have checked to make sure ingredients in steriod mouth inhalers do not overlap, which they do not.
A: i have asthma and allergies and i take many of the meds you listed. so i would say yes..
Q: Just took an asthma treatment.. still wheezing..?
I got sick with a bad cold a little over a month ago and my asthma has gotten really bad since then.. I didn't go to the doctor until this past wednesday because i don't have health insurance and couldn't afford to go.. She gave me a symbicort inhaler which she told me to take 1 puff 2 times a day, a nasonex nasal spray that i have to take once a day one spray in each nostril and xopenex 2 times a day with a nebulizer.. I started taking the meds on wednesday and im still feeling really bad.. I just finished taking my second xopenex nebulizer treatment about an hour and 45 minutes ago and im wheezing again.. I don't know if its because im coughing like crazy because of my congestion or if the meds aren't taking effect yet or if the meds just aren't working at all.. I cant call her now because her office is closed now.. Should i take another puff of symbicort if im wheezing? I usually don't even take an aspirin if i have a headache because i don't like to take medicine.. I don't want to overdose on asthma medicine or have some sort of reverse effect.. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks =]
A: honestly I wouldnt do anything for at least another hour. My daughter is on Xopenex, but it is more frequently. Call a 24 hr pharmacy they can tell you how close together the treatments can be.Good luck going threw the same thing with both kiddos right now
Q: can asthma treatments make symptoms worse?
My daughter has seasonal asthma. I recently gave her a treatment that seemed to make her symptoms worse. Is that possible? Does she need something stronger? Help!
A: What kind of treatment did you give her? Was it a doctor's prescription, an over the counter medication, or some kind of alternative treatment?
I have asthma myself, and haven't heard of any asthma medication that makes things worse. However, I've heard of OTC and alternative treatments that have unexpected side effects - including making the asthma worse.
Note: When I have a cough, I was told not to take a cough suppressant. That basically hardens the stuff in your lungs, and makes it hard to clear your lungs. So I take an expectorant, which temporarily makes me cough more. But then I stop coughing sooner.
Q: Any recent treatment for chronic severe asthma?
any recent treatment for chronic severe asthma? and what about methotraxate is it effective?
A: I am not familiar with the medication that you mentioned. There is, however, a fairly new medication out there called Spiriva. You take it once a day. My patients have told me nothing but good things about it. A lot of times a patient can take Advair (steroid and long lasting bronchiodilator) (rinse mouth) and Spiriva and not need their fast acting inhaler for days. Of course each person is different.
I hope that you are seeing a Pulmonolgist to manage your asthma. Whereas your family doctor might be good, you want an expert when it comes to your lungs. As the American Lung association says, "If you can't breathe, nothing else matters"
Good Luck
Q: When were inhalers first used in the UK for the treatment of asthma?
A: The first pressureised metered dose inhaler was marketed in 1956.
An excellent article on the history of inhalers and the 50th anniversary of the first can be found at:
www.pjonline.com/Editorial/20061223/christmas/p795pmdis.html
Enjoy - thankfully things have come a long way forward since then!
Q: What and how do drugs help to fight asthma and how long does the treatment last?
A: inhaled steroids to reduce inflammation and albuterol as a rescue inhaler. The steroids will gradually reduce symptoms but will ultimately reduce your need for a rescue inhaler. The rescue inhaler will act very quickly but not for a long period of time
Q: what are considered the safest (less side effects) of preventative asthma treatment for toddlers?
A: 1) Avoidance of asthma triggers (sounds obvious, but often overlooked). Some triggers are unavoidable (viruses, cold air, etc), but others can be avoided (allergens). If allergies are what is causing the asthma attacks, then time to figure out what allergens and avoid them and/or get treated for them. If dust, mold, fungus, etc - get specialiazed sheets/bed covers/box spring covers for the bed and wash sheets regularly, etc. Furthermore, a daily antihistamine could be key
Example: Claritin 5mg a day
=
2) Inhaled steroids (not oral steroids!). Oral steroids are OK for brief periods of time when Asthma is out of control, but NOT good for longterm use to prevent asthma (too many side effects). Inhaled steroids have very little systemic effect, and therefore hardly have any side effects. Inhaled steroids are the cornerstone of asthma treatment/prevention.
Example: Pulmicort 0.5mg a day (via a nebulizer, is recommended for toddlers)
=
3) Finally, a so-called "leukotiene inhibitor" has very few (if any at all) side effects and is often very beneficial (and OK in toddlers).
Example: Singulair 4mg a day
= = =
...but talk to your doctor more about these, of course!
Q: What should be the treatment for skin asthma?
i think that it is an allergy because every time i eat octopus and such foods my feet is very itchy so i will cover it with socks so that i will not scratch it so it wouldnt have an infection
A: Honestly, its my first time to hear this. Ask your GP regarding the cure for this kind of sickness.
Q: does anyone know a good natural treatment for asthma for a toddler?
A: First and foremost have your child under a Dr.'s care asthma is very serious condition, and I sure that you know that death can result, but also scarring of the lungs and bronchul tubes as well.
I was a severe asthmatic as a child, medication did very little. The only thing that helped my condition was chiropractic care, I know that seems simple but it was a miracle for me. The nerves that come from the brain stem that control respiration are in the cerivical spine when these vertabrae have subluxation they interfer with these nerves, and there function. My symptoms decreased by 90%!! The rest of them were helped by detoxifiy my body with herbs, and improving my diet. I have not had an attack in over 10 years.
Find a Dr. that has training in alternative medicine, or at least one who is open to other therapys. Then consult a trained certified naturapathy, these people are trained in vitamins, herbs, minerals etc. They also can help with relaxation techninques, this is very important because attacks can be brought on by stress, and aniexty. Getting a massage regularly can also help, because it can relax the muscles in the chest and between the shoulder blades. These areas are usually tightened by having attacks.
Please understand, I'm still an asthmatic, but I have no symptoms that affect my daily life. You will always have to watch and know the symptoms and warning signs, because there is never a guarentee that an attack won't happen.
I'm a massage therapist, and a volunteer firefighter. While firefighting I've never had any trouble putting water on a fire, crawling through a burning building, or pulling someone out of a buliding.
Good Luck, and have hope. Always remember to keep his Dr. aware of any alternative therapies, and supplements he is on. This can prevent interactions with RX's and other supplements.
Q: How can I combine the cytokines IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 into 1 antibody/1 serum of antibody treatment?
I am doing a research project where I have hit a rut. I would like to "make" antibodies for IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 for an asthma treatment and combine them into 1 serum to be introduced to the blood stream in one shot without disruption or neutralization. Is this possible?
