Q: What's the difference between anxiety and an anxiety disorder?
I know what anxiety is, I just don't know when having anxiety becomes a disorder. Can anyone explain it to me?
A: Anxiety becomes a disorder when you start to worry and worry so much to where you just can't stand it. Like you really can't stop thinking about what you are worrying about! Mostly, shy people have problems with anxiety and it eventually becomes a disorder because shy people don't like being in the spotlight and talking to people and they worry about that. I should know I have an anxiety disorder! I take medication so I don't worry as much and so i don't have mood swings. So anxiety disorders are a big deal and they are where you worry a lot and can't really stop worrying about it, until it's over! Most people who worry too much shake and get all nervous in front of people like something simple like giving a presentation, or like getting so nervous to where they can't hardly think at times probably have a disorder. Like just the other day, I had to read my play in drama class and I was so nervous because the teacher was making everyone read theirs. My legs were shaking I was so nervous and afraid or rejection I could barely talk, but I tried.... Oh gosh. That's what it's like. It's to where, everyday you try not to worry about little things, but you do.
Q: What kind of occasion brought Social Anxiety Disorder on?
I'm taking a psychology course, and for a project I am to take a survey.
For it I chose Social Anxiety. I'd like to ask people with this disorder what type of occasion or childhood experience brought it on?
Thanks a bunch!
A: Some people had overbearing authority figures in their lives that told them to be perfect or unacceptable; some were abused and have low self-esteem, some have been picked on in school, others may have deformities...others have learn through experience that people are dangerous and can't be trusted.
Q: How can I tell explain to my teacher about my anxiety disorder?
I have a speaking and listening exam which requires me to stand in front of the class and speak for 2-4 minutes. I really don't think I can do it, in fact I know I can't because I have a severe anxiety disorder. I can't even talk to her in a normal conversation! =S
What can I do?
A: ooo same with the severe anxiety disorder. comforting to see someone else out there in the same position =]
well, there was this one time where i got let off doing a presentation to the new class, back in september. i basically talked to my teacher out of class, somewhere quiet where noone could hear, and i just said look i'm really sorry but i don't think i can do the presentation, i'm just so nervous and i really won't be able to do it because i'll mess up and you won't understand what i'm saying. seriously i will need to drink before i do it otherwise.... and she let me off on that basis.
but that teacher already knew about my disorder and i also had depression at the time so it's different for you and i can't imagine what you must be feeling cause i'd be so nervous
could you email this teacher? or give it to her in a letter? if it's easier. or do any other teachers know like your head of year or form tutor? they might be able to tell your teacher for you.
otherwise, could your parent/s write in? or maybe you could just take the whole week off... but that would be avoidance.
i hope some of that helped...
if not, if you are getting therapy right now like cbt or seeing a doctor, you can get them to write a letter for you saying that it wouldn't benefit you to do it.
and i agree with charla, i've done that before, with the friends thing (not the 9 A* gcse's lol)
good luck though i share your anxiety, especially about presentations, i feel like i am going to die whenever that word is said let alone when i have to do one x

A: Yes I have and Yes it worked.....Watch your weight with this type of medication..

I know that I have social anxiety disorder, I just don't know how to go about getting help for it. I am almost positive I need medication to help me cope. How do I find a doctor and make an appointment?
A: Talk to your family doctor or your insurance company. If you have an HMO you're going to need a referral, if you have a PPO your insurance company should give you a list of doctors to choose from.

here are a list of possible causes
Q: How effective is aconitum for anxiety disorder?
I am a 51 yr. old woman with manic depression and anxiety disorder. In September of 08 I went off of all prescribed meds. because nothing was really helping me. My psych is monitoring me well and I've been doing much better using natural remedies; chamomile, st johns wort and some aromatherapy methods in addition to meditation, exercise and healthy diet. I am also menopausal.
A: I am a big believer in natural methods as well. I have had very good luck with my clients with St. John's Wort and various amino acids. In fact there is a website that offers a complete line of homeopathic remedies for symptoms such as anxiety, dysphoria, and attention deficit disorder. I have helped in the formulations of most of them. Many of my clients have benefited from it. Google ADD-care.
Q: How should Tell my parents that i have been Diagnosed with Generalized anxiety disorder?
I have been recently diagnosed w/ generalized anxiety disorder and havent told my parents yet(16), how should I tell them?
A: Be sure that you are well educated on your disorder so that when you say "Ma. Dad. I have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder" you will be able to answer any questions that they might have. Also, include them in your treatment plans.
Q: How to tell my parents I want to be checked for Generalized Anxiety Disorder ?
I have a worring promblem and I would like to no why I worry so much. I worry to the point of crying. I think I might have Generalized Anxiety Disorder. How do i ask my parents to get me checked for it?
A: I'll assume that your parents are nice people, and you're worrying. The other case would be that your parents are not easy to talk to, but since you say you worry a lot, I'll assume it's your worrying.
If your parents are not easy to talk to, maybe get a relative to break the news to who knows your parents. They can help judge how you can approach your parents. Some parents are very busy and may prefer a more direct approach. Others might prefer you sit down and talk with them.
If your parents are easy to approach, I'd consider going to one of them. Both at the same time would be more difficult for you, so don't try to tell both at the same time. Tell your mom or dad (whoever is easier for you to talk to) that you've noticed you have been stressed out over worrying to the point it's greatly affecting your life. It can be really hard to admit that you're crying over this, but that could help to know if you feel comfortable saying so. It is very serious if you're crying over your worrying.
You can read on Wikipedia about the symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder and possibly the diagnostic criteria, and see how familiar they sound to you. Don't diagnose yourself, but this is a decent place to start. When you approach either parent, you can then tell them that you did a bit of research and feel you need to be checked out by a doctor. Your family doctor can recommend a psychiatrist, or you can find your own through your insurance provider, if you have one. If you don't have insurance, you might qualify for free care at your city's mental health clinic, but a private doctor would be better.
I myself suffer from bipolar disorder, paranoia, and agoraphobia - fear of leaving the house. It takes work to get to the point of being open about your inner most feelings, but you will get better. The first hurdle will seem the highest, but it will get you on the track you need to be on to get the help you need.
Q: How can I help my partner deal with his anxiety disorder?
My boyfriend was diagnosed with anxiety disorder has a teenager and had been on medication ever since. We have been going out now for 2 years, and as a result of his medication we basically have no sex life. When he stops taking the medication to try to remedy this problem, he suffers serious panic attacks. He is very self conscious about his problem and refuses to discuss it with a doctor. Any advice?
A: It's possible to have an intimate relationship, even if he is unable to orgasm. Kissing , hugging, fondling , etc. if he feels under pressure to perform his anxiety levels will rise. Just re-assure him you love him regardless. Be patient and maybe his sex drive will return to some degree, or else his anxiety will improve to the point where he can reduce meds.
Q: Can anyone suggest a good solution for anxiety disorder?
I have suffered with anxiety for most of my life and have tried different medications with varying degrees of success. I've also tried drinking too much, which just makes things worse lol. What solutions have others found to anxiety disorder?
A: It can be a case of trial and error with the different medications that are available. Your doctor should keep monitoring you and suggest alternatives if you do not feel that what you are taking is working, don't be afraid to ask to be referred to a specialist for CBT if you don't feel that medication is the answer. There are changes to your diet and lifestyle such as cutting back on caffeine and alcohol that can make a big difference. Sometimes just by experiencing a drop in physical symptoms you can find yourself a platform to move forward.
You didn't mention what type of anxiety disorder you are suffering with e.g. general, social or panic attacks. Has your doctor identified which group that your anxiety belongs to. There are a lot of good books and websites on the subject of anxiety. One I like is www.anxiety-disorder-solutions.com, and of course a wikipedia search can also turn out some useful info. I would suggest that you should read up on the condition so that you can feel more confident discussing it with your doctor.
Good luck
Q: How to find a job when you have an anxiety disorder?
I desperately need to get a job but the problem is that I'm terrified of holding a job. I have officially been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and even my therapist said it would be better to get medication and treatment before attempting something that to me is very scary, which would be getting a job. But I can't pay for therapy or medicine or any of my bills and there is no one to borrow from. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do? I'm also very nervous around people so babysitting is out of the question. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
A: I'm so sorry for you - that would be a terrible way to live a life. Even with everyday complaints about the work environment, there is so much you're missing by not being able to work (friendships, knowledge, purpose, income...). I don't think you can afford NOT to pay for therapy and take medication. It might be worth running up a credit card so you can get out there and get a job - and with a job health benefits. You can also spend time educating yourself about anxiety disorders - and learn about cognitive therapy (it's very helpful). I'd also recommend two books "I'm Ok, You're Ok" and "Don't Panic" (search amazon.com). Good luck!
Q: Is there a website or online community for people who suffer from Generalized anxiety disorder?

Q: What cold and or allergy meds are save to take with anxiety disorder with panic attacks?
My husband has recently been diagnosed with gen. anxiety disorder with panic attacks and there is a tobacco barn in our small town which is irritating his allergies he took the cough med. Delsym and it aggravated his anxiety. Help what can he take?
A: I usually take claratin and it doesn't react with my anxiety medication. However, everyone is different. The best thing to do is to talk to your dr before trying another medication. Especially if he is on prescription drugs, the worst thing to do it have them comflict.
